The Kingdom of God
Romans 14:17
If you’ve been part of a church for any length of time, then you know that strong differences of opinion sometimes arise over whether Christians should listen to certain styles of music, attend movies, eat or drink certain things, and any number of other issues. Paul wrote Romans 14 to keep believers from judging one another over such matters. The specific issues were different in his day, but the same sentiment continues to modern times. But the kingdom of God is not a matter of what you eat or drink. It’s about living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Some Christians can enjoy the blessings of wealth without sinning, while others cannot. Some can listen to mainstream music without sinning, while others cannot. The same could be said for watching movies. In Romans 14:23, Paul said each Christian is bound by his own conscience “If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.”
