Love That Breaks The Record Books

1 Corinthians 13:4

If we believe that God is love, as John assures us (1 John4:8), and that love keeps no record wrongs, then we have a staggering revelation on our hands. God‘s love isn’t a conditional, record-keeping, kind of love. Wrongs have been forgiven AND forgotten. Perhaps our greatest barrier to loving others with this kind of generous abandon is our inability to receive God‘s love. We may believe that God can only love us if we pray more, live ashamed of our failures, or even hide our faults. This checklist approach to love alienates us from God and robs us from the experience of love that could revolutionize how we interact with our family, friends, and colleagues. Once we understand that God loves us and isn’t keeping track of our wrongs, we begin to extend that generous love to others. When we know that we are loved without condition, we become free to extend the same forgiveness to others—a forgiveness that keeps no record of wrongs.
