Spiritual Eyes

1 Samuel 26:23

Sometimes, faithfulness means inaction. That was the case in today’s verse when Saul got wind of the fact that David was hiding from him in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul took 3,000 men in search of him, but David outfoxed him. Then he showed up at Saul’s camp early one morning while everybody was sleeping. His cousin Abishai wanted to kill Saul on the spot, but David recognized that Saul was God’s anointed. David’s faithfulness to the Lord outweighed an opportunity to kill his oppressor. The Hebrew word for faithfulness in this verse means “moral fidelity.” To kill Saul would have been the equivalent of being unfaithful to God, and David wouldn’t do that. He saw his situation through spiritual eyes and it made all the difference. Are you on the cusp of making a decision you’d feel justified in making, yet you know deep down inside that it would mean being unfaithful to God? Put off the flesh and look at the situation through spiritual eyes.
