Giving Up The Reins

Proverbs 15:13

When a wild horse is “broken,” it’s the spirit that is broken. The animal’s individual character and its energy remain. It simply becomes harnessed and therefore useful…to the rider. The horse now submits to the rider and moves in any direction he wills. Trials break our spirit. They make us sorrowful. They bring us to a point of handing God the reins of our rebellious lives, and saying, “Not my wheel, but Yours, be done.” Our individual character and our energy remain, but they are now harnessed for the Master’s use. When God says, “This is the way,” that’s the way we turn, because we are no longer our own. We have presented our bodies as living sacrifices, knowing that “the sacrifices of God are a broken and a contrite heart“ (Psalm 51:17). In what area do you need to give up the reins and say, “Not my will, but Yours be done” to the Lord?
