Faith When It Really Counts
Numbers 14:9
Joshua and Caleb were the only two men over 40 years old who were allowed to enter the promised land. After 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, used to men carried God‘s promise to their people as they faced the monumental task of taking the land that God had promised to them. Their faith and God was greedy, all encompassing, as if their lives depended on it kind of faith. Why? Because their lives actually did depend on God‘s promises. If Joshua was to lead Israel into God‘s promises, he would have to feel God‘s presence on a second-by-second basis and step out in faith, trusting that God would come through and stand true to His promises. Joshua’s job as the leader of Israel was to encourage the people to attack fortified cities in the face of overwhelming odds. Through 40 years, his confidence in God’s strong arm had not wavered. Joshua‘s story of determined, consistent faith is strong encouragement for us today as well.
