A Call to Love

1 Peter 1:22-23

Love. It is more than a heavenly concept or an emotional experience. It is a reality established by God and evidenced in His action toward people in and through Jesus Christ. One experiences His love in a personal encounter with God that is grounded in the Word of God and empowered by the Spirit of God. This results in one’s being born again. Intrinsic to such a realization of God‘s love is a call to love. Love one another: a direction. Love is directed, specifically, to fellow followers of Jesus Christ. It recognizes the oneness of faith, purpose, and perspective shared by believers. What is the direction of your love? Love fervently: an action. Fervently means with intensity and passion, eagerly, earnestly, energetically, enthusiastically. What describes your expressions of love? Love with a pure heart: a motivation. The complexities of human love often belie our mixed motives. But God-inspired love requires a God-given motive. What is your motivation to love?
